ACTION ALERT

New York:  We need Senators Clinton and Schumer’s support for the NETRP program!
Senate NETRP Dear Colleague Deadline Fast Approaching

Take Action!

Deadline April 9!

Help PAN secure Department of Defense research dollars for Parkinson’s disease!  You are receiving this e-mail because Senators Clinton and Schumer have supported the Neurotoxin Exposure Treatment Research Parkinson’s (NETRP) program in the past by signing onto the Senate Dear Colleague funding letter.  Please ask them to sign the NETRP Dear Colleague in support of innovative Parkinson’s research again this year!

While the NETRP program has received funding in the House Defense Appropriations bill each year; it has never been funded in the Senate bill.  Last year, the Defense Conference Committee, which resolves the differences between the House and Senate bills, decided that all Defense health research programs that were not funded in the Senate bill would be cut by 20 percent.  This resulted in a $6.5 million cut to the NETRP program.  To prevent future cuts to the program we must work to include the program in the Senate bill for the first time this year.

Funding the NETRP program is PAN’s top-priority and funding is determined, in large part, by the number of signatures on this letter.  Your Senator’s signature could mean the difference in millions of Parkinson’s research dollars.  We currently have 23 Senators signed onto the NETRP Dear Colleague.  Please e-mail today!  To see the list of Senate NETRP signers, please click here.

Click “Take Action,” enter your ZIP code, add your personal story to the written e-mail, and hit the send button.  Our system will tell you which Senator or Senators you need to e-mail.

The NETRP program funds innovative research that may lead to exciting discoveries benefiting not only our military personnel but the entire Parkinson's community. To learn more about this important program, please click here

New York is Falling Behind.

Don't Deny Hope

We are requesting that state legislators support the inclusion of $100 million in state funding for regenerative medicine, including research involving embryonic stem cells in the final FY 2006-07 State Budget, due April 1, 2006.

The world’s top scientists agree that regenerative medical therapies that utilize embryonic stem cells offer immense promise for developing new treatment and prevention methods for debilitating diseases and injuries.

New York’s medical schools, teaching hospitals and the biotech industry are responsible for 560,000 jobs and $48 billion in economic activity in our state.  New York’s failure to fund stem-cell research has raised a serious risk of labor-force competition for some of our most talented scientists and their laboratories from other states

Every day research is denied, cures and effective treatments for children and adults with these devastating diseases and injuries are further postponed.  We urgently need state funding for embryonic stem-cell research this year.
