PARKINSON’S DISEASE: A UNIQUE TREATMENT FOR SYMPTOMS

Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 3pm, at the Cheektowaga Senior Center –

Movement specialist Janet Hamburg will share her award-winning seated exercise program for people with Parkinson’s.  She designed the exercises to address movement challenges experienced by people with Parkinson’s such as balance, range of motion, facial expression and “freezing.”  Janet Hamburg is a professor of dance and an associate of the Gerontology Center at the University of Kansas. She directs senior wellness and exercise for the Center for Movement Education and Research in Los Angeles, and is a senior research associate for the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies in New York City. Her work with athletes has been featured on NBC national television.  Staff from UB’s Movement Disorders Center will provide an overview of Parkinson’s along with a description of community resources.  This FREE public event is sponsored by MJ Peterson Real Estate, Peter Hafner Financial Services and the Parkinson’s Association of Western NY.  Please call Michael Olear at 716-743-5827 to register or on-line at michael@olear.com – seating is limited.
